MACROPHAGE IMAGE: macrophages are large (macro) eating (phage) cells (phagocytes) that are crucial at the start and finish of the immune response. They can engulf invaders and present the alien antigens on their surfaces (i.e. macrophages are antigen presenting cells). Subsequently, they can eat debris left in the aftermath of an immune battle.
